Diet Teas For Weight Loss

Since Oprah Winfrey exclaimed, "I'm gonna do that. OK. That is so good! Whoo! That is great" in an interview with Dr Nigel Perricone a few years ago, interest in diet teas have been on the increase.

The tip that Oprah was so excited over was when Dr Perricone told her she could lose 10 pounds in 6 weeks if she replaced her coffee with green tea. Coffee consumption, at least in the short to medium term, can increase your insulin levels. Insulin is one of the hormones that control your blood sugar levels. When your insulin levels spike, this leads to cravings and over-eating.

Dr Perricone could have said, 'replace your coffee with any non-sugary beverage and lose weight', if that was all there was to the story. But there is a reason he mentioned green tea specifically. Green tea has many benefits for weight loss. As you'll see below, green tea and its variants (oolong, white tea, puerh), make great diet teas.

Green tea has been extensively studied in recent years, as scientists began to discover why it was one of the great diet teas. It helps keep your blood sugar levels lower, unlike coffee that raises them. This makes it particularly good to drink when you have a meal rich in carbohydrates. Normally when you eat a lot of carbohydrates, your insulin levels rise. This tends to leave you feeling tired, and craving more food. You might remember the feeling after eating a cake, or candy bar. Once the sugar rush has worn off, you feel more tired than before you ate it.

If this were its' only benefit as a diet tea, that would still make it valuable as a weight loss aid. But green tea actually does a lot more. In a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, it was discovered that those who drank a bottle of green tea extract a day for 3 months lost more fat than those who just drank normal tea. Green tea works as one of the diet teas because one of its' active constituents, the antioxidant epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), raises the body's basal metabolism, which means you'll burn more calories just going about your normal tasks. Green tea also causes the body to produce noradrenaline, which suppresses the appetite.

The good news is that for green diet teas to work, you only need to drink 4 cups a day. That figure goes down for some special diet teas that actually help you burn more than 2.5 times the calories of green tea. This particular organic tea blend combines oolong, sencha, and puerh, which are all variants of green tea. Sencha is a Japanese green tea, and oolong and puerh are Chinese green teas that have their own special health benefits, in addition to their benefits as green diet teas.

Diet Teas Or Weight Loss Pills

With the benefits of green tea established for weight loss, the next question is, do you really need to drink it? After all, a quick search through the search engines will show that you can now buy green tea extract in capsules and even concentrated herbal extracts. And that may be appealing to some because you can take them anywhere, and you don't need to boil a kettle.

Green tea supplements do have a benefit for weight loss, of course. But the thing with extracts, is that you don't know you're getting all the active constituents. There are over 200 active constituents in green tea, and they all work synergistically together to create the strongest effect. You know you're getting all those constituents when you drink green diet teas. You don't know for a fact that you're getting them when you take green tea supplements, no matter how good the quality.
